  • Get Caught Reading

    Tue 11 Feb 2020

World Book Day 2020 (Thursday 5th March)

To commemorate World Book Day this year we are organising the following events:

    Get Caught Reading Competition

From now until World Book Day we will be running a ‘Get Caught Reading’ campaign to promote the fun of reading. We are challenging children to send in their most inventive photos of themselves reading in unconventional places. These could be places that inspire them, notable landmarks or just somewhere that lets them escape into their imagination, while reading a good book.

Please e-mail in your entries with the subject: Get Caught Reading to office@tockholes.blackburn.sch.uk

The deadline for entries is 9am Thursday 5th of March. Please send your entries as soon as possible, as staff will also be sharing their entries on the school website and Twitter in the coming weeks.

Entries will be judged by a team of children and adults for their creativity and winners will be announced and awarded with a small prize, on the next day in Friday Worship.

  • Safer Internet Day - 11th February 2020

    Mon 10 Feb 2020

    Safer Internet Day – 11th February 2020

The 11th February 2020 is safer internet day. Safer Internet Day aims to inspire a national conversation about using technology responsibly, respectfully, critically and creatively.  Coordinated in the UK by the UK Safer Internet Centre the celebration sees hundreds of organisations get involved to help promote the safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology for children and young people.  It calls upon young people, parents, carers, teachers, social workers, law enforcement, companies, policymakers, and wider, to join together in helping to create a better internet.

In 2019, safer internet day reached 46% of young people aged 8-17 and 26% of parents. Everyone is invited to join in Safer Internet Day with supporters across the globe, to help create a better internet on Tuesday 11th February 2020 and throughout the whole year for our children and young people.

  • Coronavirus Advice from the Department for Education

    Tue 04 Feb 2020

The government is closely monitoring the spread of the Coronavirus and is taking action at home and abroad. The overall risk of Coronavirus to the UK remains moderate. As a parent/carer you should not be unduly worried about the possibility of your child catching the virus. Children should continue to attend school as normal.  As with any virus, we need to promote basic hygiene practices, such as washing hands, always sneezing into a tissue and the use of antibacterial hand gel.

Latest information and advice can also be found at:

You should not be unduly worried about the possibility of your children catching the Coronavirus.

There is no reason why your children should not continue to attend their early years, school or further education setting as normal.

We recognise that some families or children may be planning to travel to China during the forthcoming half term period. If so, please refer to the FCO’s latest travel advice via the link above.

    What action you can take

A UK wide campaign has been launched to provide clear advice on how to slow the spread of Coronavirus.

Please help to support the campaign which promotes basic hygiene practices, such as regularly washing hands and always sneezing into a tissue, to stem the spread of viruses.

  • Children's Mental Health Week

Mon 03 Feb 2020 Mrs Barnes & Mrs Riding

    Children's Mental Health Week runs from 3rd - 9th February 2020.

The theme is 'Find your Brave' which has been introduced to the children in whole school worship.

Throughout the week children will be taking part in different activities; children will be bringing home a 'Show and Tell' activity sheet for them to record when they have been brave - this can then be brought back in to school for our whole school worship on Monday 10th February.

We are supporting Place2Be Children's Mental Health Week and are kindly asking for donations of £1, to be sent in with the 'Show and Tell' activity, were all money raised will go to the charity Place2Be to help and support children with Mental Health needs.
